Nations XI started as a pub debate: which country has produced the greatest footballer in each position? Goalkeeper, you might say Germany. Striker, probably Brazil. Centre-back, Italy. Easy enough so far.
Then someone added a rule: you can only use each nation once.
Brazil for your striker? That's Ronaldo, Pelé, and Romário covered. But now you can't use Brazil anywhere else — no Cafu at right-back, no Roberto Carlos on the left, no Casemiro in midfield.
Germany for your goalkeeper? Neuer is locked in. But you've just lost Beckenbauer, Matthäus, and Müller.
Every pick creates a dilemma. Every nation you use closes a door somewhere else.
We couldn't agree on the best XI, so we built a scoring system using historical data — international goals, caps, tournament performances, and transfer values — to settle the argument once and for all.
